FT Temporary Project Manager | Commencing no later than July 4th, 2017

The Sooke Region Chamber of Commerce was successful in obtaining a grant under the Canada Summer jobs program and is looking to hire an individual with project management experience.  The position is a temporary, full-time position commencing as early as May 22nd but no later than July 4th. The position is for a maximum of 16 weeks and will be approximately 38 hours per week with the majority of hours taking place Monday to Friday between 10am and 5pm.  Some evening and weekend work may be necessary with advance notice.

Role:

This position will be responsible for overseeing, coordinating and managing the implementation of new projects identified by the Board of Directors. Projects could include: developing, documenting and implementing a business development district; advocacy campaigns; events and promotions; assessment, creation and implementation of collaborative strategies and programs benefiting our members and the business community; creation of marketing strategies and materials; developing strategies to increase the value of membership.

Tasks include but are not limited to:

Liaising with the Board of Directors and key stakeholders in the community, creating and maintaining budgets and timelines, sourcing suppliers, partners and sponsors, negotiating contracts, communications and PR, creating consistent branding and marketing and other duties as required to execute projects. 

The successful candidate will possess the following skill set:

  • project management experience
  • great interpersonal and sales skills
  • creative and critical thinking
  • ability to multi-task, see the bigger picture, and easily come up with solutions
  • quick learner and teachable
  • efficient, organized and able to prioritize
  • hard working, resourceful and able to work under minimal supervision
  • intermediate knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Office Suite

This position would be ideal for a university or college student enrolled in an MBA, Project Management, Economic Development or Tourism program.

Special efforts will be made to hire a priority student who is First Nations or a member of a visible minority.

As part of the Canada Summer Jobs agreement funding requirement criteria, the individual who is hired must fall under the following:

  1. is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
  2. was registered as a full-time student during the preceding year;
  3. intends to return to school on a full-time basis during the next academic year;
  4. is a student in secondary, post-secondary, vocational or technical program;
  5. is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act* and;
  6. is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial legislation and regulations.

*Foreign student are not eligible.

Compensation:  $12.00/hour

FT Temporary Office Manager Administrative Assistant | Commencing no later than July 4th, 2017

The Sooke Region Chamber of Commerce was successful in obtaining a grant under the Canada Summer jobs program and is looking to hire an individual with administrative experience.  The position is a temporary, full-time position commencing as early as May 29th but no later than July 4th. The position is for a maximum of 16 weeks and will be approximately 38 hours per week with the majority of hours taking place Monday to Friday between 10am and 5pm.  Some evening and weekend work may be necessary with advance notice.

The successful candidate will possess the following skill set:

  • administrative or office management experience
  • quick learner and teachable
  • hard working, resourceful and able to work under minimal supervision
  • intermediate knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Office Suite

This position would be ideal for a mature highschool student, a university or college student, someone who plans to enter/re-enter the workforce after the completion of their program and is looking to gain some experience now.
