"A few weeks ago, I received a letter from the CRD asking for feedback from the Sooke Region Chamber of Commerce on possible affects to the CRD’s “brand” and the region’s economic development if the proposed expansion to the Trans Mountain Pipeline was approved.  I provided feedback that addressed only these two issues.  In my letter, I wrote that “it is the opinion of the Sooke Region Chamber of Commerce that the pipeline expansion will not adversely affect the CRD brand”.  I also wrote that “it is anticipated that investment by businesses in our region will increase and bring enhanced employment opportunities”.  If you would like to read the text of both of these letters, they are available here.

A major decision regarding the Trans Mountain Pipeline will be made in the relatively near future.  As with any major decision, it is important to weigh the potential benefits against the potential risks.  This results in the best possible decision and my letter contributed to this process.  If I had been asked to bring attention to the potential risks of the project my letter would have read very differently.

As your President, I have heard from fellow Chamber members that are against the proposed pipeline expansion as well as from those in favour of it.  I will continue to represent all of our views in as factual and accurate a way as I can."

Sean Dyble, President

The Sooke Region Chamber of Commerce has submitted an article to the Sooke News Mirror to be published in the June 10th Edition regarding improvement to Highway 14, encouraging all levels of government to work closely with the community towards resolving the current safety and capacity concerns. This is a critical issue that adversely affects us all and there is a clear expectation from the residents and the local business community for the District of Sooke to show leadership, to take initiative, and to support the needs of our town.
