Pacific Jamboree 2015, hosted by Camp Barnard in Sooke this past July 11 to 18 was very successful for Scouts Canada as well as for businesses in our community. During this one week adventure for 3100 Scouts in our beautiful surroundings, community support spurred rave reviews from the attendees, who said they felt welcomed wherever they went. ~ Way to go Sooke!

Here are some of their comments:

  • The scenery and weather were absolutely beautiful.  Many were envious that this is our 'backyard' and are excited to be coming back in 2019.
  • Some felt the laundromat, ‘Sooke Laundry’, was the coolest place to hang out with a great atmosphere and coffee shop as well as having clean clothes!
  • Coffee shops such as 'The Stick in the Mud' were very popular for both adults and older teens.
  • The 'Sooke Region Museum' was described as one of the best small town museums that they had ever seen!
  • They were inspired with Chief Gordon Planes' speech who shared that he was a Scout at Camp Barnard 45 years ago.
  • Local practitioners, ‘Drs. Morin and Joslin, Optometry’ and ‘Dr. Chris Bryant, Dentistry’ were so helpful on short notice.
  • This Jamboree was described as having better food, programming and organization as well as being at a better site than previous Pacific and Canadian Jamborees.

Scouts Canada is looking forward to doing it all again in July 2019.
