SOOKE TOWN CENTRE DESIGN GUIDELINES - MAYOR & COUNCIL MEETING JUNE 23, 6:00 PM

Having worked collaboratively with the District of Sooke planning department staff since 2013, the Sooke Region Chamber of Commerce's proposed changes for the Sooke Town Centre Design Guidelines to encourage a West Coast design theme will be presented to Mayor and Council at the Committee of the Whole meeting on Monday June 23rd at 6:00 pm at the District Council Chambers.

Anyone interested in supporting this new West Coast influenced document are encouraged to attend and speak to the issue this evening.


MEETING PLANNERS INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE IN SOOKEMPI Reception

The Sooke Region Chamber of Commerce, District of Sooke and Prestige Oceanfront Resort hosted the Meeting Professional's International conference this past weekend.

Responsible for over $20M of event planning for some of the largest companies in Canada, 15 high impact delegates were toured around Sooke by Chamber President Michael Nyikes and enjoyed a variety of local excursions and activities which will assist them in their future conference, convention, AGM, and corporate retreat planning needs.

The Sooke Region Chamber of Commerce is proud to celebrate the growth of Chamber member 'The Stick in the Mud' Coffee House!  Celebrating their 7th anniversary of being in business, 'The Stick' has opened a second location for the summer within the Prestige Oceanfront Resort. They will have fresh baked goods and locally roasted coffee available from 7:00 am each day!


9TH ANNUAL CONSULTANT’S INVITATIONAL FISHING DERBY

JULY 26, 2014: Over $60,000 has been raised and donated to the Sooke Salmon Enhancement Society and the Charter's Demonstration Centre by the Consultant's Invitational Fishing Derby over the past 9 years. Over 300 anglers participate in this Sooke based event every year, with the Sooke Harbour Marina Resort and Prestige Oceanfront Resort hosting the pre-party and the main events.

Hosted by the engineering community of Victoria, the organizers are looking for sponsors and door prizes.


CHAMBERS CALL FOR OVERSIGHT OF PRODUCT STEWARDSHIP ORGANIZATIONS, MMBC

ImageProxyChambers from around B.C. have voted for better oversight of product stewardship organizations such as Multi Material BC (MMBC).
B.C.'s Chambers passed a policy calling on the B.C. government to reject Bylaw 280 at the BC Chamber of Commerce Annual General Meeting & Conference on May 24.
"Our membership has seen first-hand the costs that product stewardship organizations such as Multi Material BC put onto B.C. businesses," said John Winter, president and CEO of the BC Chamber.
"Our policy calls for better oversight of this type of organization to ensure that any costs put onto businesses are fair, clear, and manageable," he added.
