GERARD LEBLANC - RESIGNATION OF DISTRICT OF SOOKE'S DIRECTOR OF PLANNING
The Sooke Region Chamber of Commerce wishes to acknowledge the tremendously positive impact the District of Sooke’s Director of Planning Gerard LeBlanc had over the past many years employed at the DoS. BUSINESS TIPS, by Ken Stratford
This new series of business tips is brought to you by Ken Stratford, the Sooke Chamber’s strategic advisor. Ken’s organization mentors and advises over 150 small business owners every year. www.kenstratford.com
1. Introduce Yourself.
While many large operations use this technique it can still be particularly valuable for small businesses. When you get a new client make an appointment to sit down with their accounts payable person and go over their procedures. This allows them to explain what they need from you to ensure prompt payment and gives you a chance to make a face-to-face connection with the person who will actually be writing the cheque. Accounting personnel are frequently forgotten minions, particularly in large companies, and it is flattering for them to be asked what THEY want. By spending even ten minutes with them you will have formed some sort of connection so that, if problems do occur, you know who to contact and they can put a face to your company’s invoice.
2. Charge It!
Rather than continuously sending out those repeat invoices and trusting that someone is reading them, some companies offer their overdue clients a choice. Give them a call and explain that you need the account cleared up, but rather than you taking the time to process another invoice and them having to go to the effort of cutting a cheque, you would be happy to accept their payment by company credit card. You may well find those overdue balances are paid right away because you have offered them this convenience.
