We began as a group of parents, educators and caregivers in the Sooke area. We were excited at the prospect of providing programs and services in our own area for families with children and adults with developmental and physical disabilities. In October 1998, Sooke Options for Community Living Association was incorporated and registered as a non-profit organization. Over the years our Board of Directors, members and employees have worked together to establish a summer day camp for children with disabilities, an adult day program and a support group for families and caregivers. In the future we hope to set up a staffed respite home.
For 40 years the museum has provided services to locals and visitors alike. Temporary and permanent exhibits, heritage buildings, community events such as our annual Salmon BBQ & Open House, Moss Cottage Christmas, and Sooke Summer Night Market. The museum also has an extensive gift shop and is the official provincially designated Visitor Centre for the Sooke to Port Renfrew area.
